Faith Formation truly begins at home with parents praying with their children, bringing them to Mass, and living out their Catholic faith. Our parish has many communities to support you. We offer catechesis classes for children beginning in the first grade. Our parishioners are excited to pass on the faith to the next generation through our faith formation classes.
Our catechesis programs cover First Holy Communion with children in first grade or above. This is a two-year process of attending classes one evening each week during the school year. First Holy Communion Classes are designed to help children prepare to receive the Eucharist. In class students will begin to understand the Eucharist; be taught biblical truths; and learn about the importance of Mass (and what it means), prayer, adoration, and devotion to Jesus.
After receiving this sacrament, children may begin Confirmation classes in seventh grade. Students will learn that Confirmation is the sacrament that completes Baptism, confirming and strengthening the grace received. It marks the candidates’ full initiation into the Church.
Education in the faith by the parents should begin in the child’s earliest years. This already happens when family members help one another to grow in faith by the witness of a Christian life in keeping with the Gospel. Family catechesis precedes, accompanies, and enriches other forms of instruction in the faith. Parents have the mission of teaching their children to pray and to discover their vocation as children of God. 35 The parish is the Eucharistic community and the heart of the liturgical life of Christian families; it is a privileged place for the catechesis of children and parents.
