Penance and Reconciliation

The sacrament of penance is a beautiful gift from God that allows us to experience his grace. Any sins we commit after baptism can be brought to God through the sacrament of confession. In this sacrament we have the opportunity to repent of our sins and renew our friendship with God. It is a holy moment in his presence where we acknowledge our sins, especially mortal sins. With absolution, we are reconciled to God and the Church. In this holy moment, in confession, we experience God’s overwhelming mercy and love. It is an opportunity for healing and grace. There is a beautiful joy and peace that we experience as we walk out of the confessional in a state of grace!

It’s highly encouraged that you do your penance right away. You may find peace as you step into the church to do your penance and be in the loving presence of Christ.

Christ instituted the sacrament of Penance for all sinful members of his Church: above all for those who, since Baptism, have fallen into grave sin, and have thus lost their baptismal grace and wounded ecclesial communion. It is to them that the sacrament of Penance offers a new possibility to convert and to recover the grace of justification. The Fathers of the Church present this sacrament as “the second plank [of salvation] after the shipwreck which is the loss of grace. (CCC 1446)
