Funerals

As Catholics our lives begin by being welcomed into communion with God through baptism. When we leave this world behind, the Catholic funeral allows us to call to mind our hope in the resurrection. It holds profound significance for the deceased and speaks to the heart of the living.

During the funeral mass we celebrate the resurrection, pray for the deceased, join together as a community to offer comfort and prayer, use the rich symbols of our faith (holy water to remind us of our baptism, the Easter candle to remind us of the light of Christ, and incense to help us visualize our prayers being raised to heaven) to convey our hope, are reminded of our call to holiness, and celebrate the life of our loved one.
